A brand of premium chicken products produced by Ozark Mountain Poultry (OMP) is now 100 percent certified by the Non-GMO Project. Forester Farmers Market® chicken is non-GMO, antibiotic-free, cage free, 100% all- natural with no added hormones or steroids, and fed an all-vegetable diet.
The chicken can be purchased at Sam’s Clubs nationwide, Midwest-based Kwik Trip, Braums, and other grocers throughout the central U.S.
Founder and board chairman of northeast Arkansas-based Ozark Mountain Poultry, Ed Fryar, sees the Non-GMO Project seal as a way to stand out among the competition. Consumer concerns about animal feed prompted the switch to feed from non-GMO corn and soy—sourced directly from local Arkansas farmers.
OMP has invested millions in a state-of-the-art feed mill and two grain elevators to secure a reliable supply and preserve the identity of non-GMO grain. The latest purchase of a 1.7 million bushel capacity elevator will allow focus on buying, selling, and storing corn, with plans to expand into wheat and soybeans in the future. The company plans to source all its grain for feed from farms within a 150-mile radius of its Batesville complex.
