Fairtrasa has partnered with farmers from Ecuador to globally debut Regenerative Organic Certified (ROC) bananas. The certification represents the highest standard of both environmental and social sustainability and represents a crucial step forward in banana cultivation.

ROC growers go beyond organic by avoiding all industrial inputs, typically creating their own compost and using smart intercropping techniques where plants fix nutrients for each other and protect the soil by creating ground cover. Soil is tested regularly for organic matter.

Regenerative organic agriculture increases yields while making plants more resistant to increasingly extreme weather. It could potentially sequester up to 13 gigatons of carbon, enriching soil life, halting erosion, and heightening fertility.

LatiBio, a supply-side partner with Fairtrasa with a focus on small-scale farming communities, is reviving ancestral farming while making use of cutting-edge ecological science.
