It’s the largest dedicated grain sorghum milling and processing company in the U.S. With the gluten-free global market expected to double from $6.7 billion to $14 billion in the next decade, Nu Life Market’s future is promising. The company received the 2024 Governor’s Award of Excellence in October, and was hailed a Kansas 2024 Statewide Agribusiness Award winner.

“With the growth in consumer demand for gluten free [and sustainable] foods…we’ve grown from processing a few hundred pounds of sorghum to millions of pounds annually,” said founder and president Earl Roemer. The company offers producers the chance to “conserve the natural resources on their farms by utilizing regenerative agriculture production practices and add[ing] value to the sorghum grain they are currently harvesting,” Roemer added.

Nu Life Market’s Farm to Family Food Safety Program reassures customers that contamination with gluten is unlikely. Sorghum also contains very low levels of heavy metals, making it a potentially safer ingredient option for manufacturers of baby foods.

Sorghum is highly tolerant to heat and drought, giving it the name the “Camel of Crops.” It is a key grain providing food security for millions of people in marginal agricultural areas.
