In the state’s 2022 Scoping Plan for Achieving Carbon Neutrality, California set a goal of raising organic production to 20% of cultivated farm acres by 2045.
Recently, new milestones were set in the report, California’s Nature-Based Solutions Climate Targets: 10% of annual and perennial crops would be organic by 2030, and 15% by 2038.
The Department of Food and Agriculture reports that the first goal is nearly met. The most recent California Agricultural Statistic Review states that of the 24.2 million farming and ranching acres in 2021, almost 9% of that was in organic production.
